GEOCACHE COORDINATES

All geocache coordinates are in the format of ddd°mmm.ssss. All coordinates use the WGS 84 map datum. Remember to tell someone where you are going and what time you are expected back. And yes, these are all the directions you get. The rest is up to you.  Geocache explained.

Welcome to our GeoCache section. What is Geocache? Geocaching is a new treasure hunting game. Armed with a Global Positioning System (GPS) device and coordinates, you can locate treasures that others have hidden in unusual places. The first stash (a bucket partially buried underground on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon) was placed by Dave Ulmer on May 3rd 2000; by May 6th, two readers of the USENET newsgroup sci.geo.satellite-nav had found it and logged their visits in the logbook.. It's now turned into a worldwide phenomenon, with stashes on 4 continents, and an average of 2-3 new stashes per week since it's inception.  As of 3 September 2001, there were 5789 active cache's in 66 countries.  Plus one (ours).

Each stash consists of a container to protect the stash items; various items placed in the cache, and a logbook. When you find the cache, you take one of the items from the cache, and replace it with something you brought with you, a note, a key, something that means something to you. You sign the logbook, annotating your name, what you took and what you left.

We will be placing geocache stashes in various places around the UAE. Check in on this page for new stashes and news about GeoCache. Click on the links below to learn more. We feel that this new sport is a great way to have an adventure. Each cache has two difficulty ratings of 1-5, the first one being how difficult the terrain is and the second refers to the difficulty of finding the cache. Periodically, we will be going to the caches and retreiving the logbooks and restocking the caches. We will publish the results on the website, both the items left and the logbook comments. After you visit a geocache, come back to the website and enter your comments in the geocache on-line bulletin board.

remember, adventure is not a destination, it's an attitude.

 Happy stashhunting.
